Message Title: Urge to Hide: A Look at Shame and Self-Forgiveness

Scripture Focus: Genesis 2:25, Genesis 3:6-7, 1 John 4:7-9, 1 John 4:16-19

Message Summary: This message takes us back to the garden of Eden to explore one of humanity's most persistent struggles: shame. Drawing from Genesis 2 and 3, we're invited to examine the profound shift that occurred when sin entered the world—when Adam and Eve went from being 'naked and unashamed' to immediately reaching for fig leaves to cover themselves. This wasn't about physical nakedness, but about complete vulnerability without fear of rejection. We were originally designed for total openness, full exposure, and perfect acceptance. But after the fall, that instinct to hide became hardwired into our humanity. The message powerfully distinguishes between healthy shame—which alerts us when we've hurt someone and need to grow—and toxic shame, which whispers that we are fundamentally flawed at our core. This unhealthy shame keeps us trapped behind closed doors, hiding our true selves even from God's grace. Through the lens of 1 John 4, we discover that God's love isn't just a feeling—it's a commitment to act for our well-being, demonstrated through Jesus taking our shame to the cross and clothing us in His righteousness. The challenge before us is clear: will we continue carrying burdens that Jesus already buried, or will we step into the freedom that's already ours?
